National Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria, Edo State Chapter Pay a Courtesy Visit to the Executive Secretary, EDSPHCDA in Benin City.

On the 7th of March, 2025, some members of the National Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria, Edo State Chapter, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of the Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), Dr. Coulson Oahimire Osoikhai, at his office in Ezoti, Benin City.

Comrade Victor Uyi Omorogbe, Chairman of the National Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria, Edo State Chapter, led the team.

The purpose of the visit was to congratulate Dr. Osoikhai on his appointment and to familiarize him with the Association. While speaking, the Chairman, Comrade Victor, took the opportunity to introduce the different cadres that make up Community Health Practitioners, which include

  1. Primary Health Care Tutors.
  2. Community Health Officers (CHO).
  3. Community Health Extension Workers (CHEW).
  4. Junior Community Health Extension Workers (JCHEW).

He explained that the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN) fully trains and licenses these professionals to perform community-based and administrative functions.

During the visit, on behalf of the members of the association, the Chairman made several requests to the Executive Secretary, including:

  1. The Appointment of Community Health Officers (CHOs) as Directors.
  2. They urged the Agency to consider appointing qualified CHOs as Directors of Community Health Services at the State level and in all 18 Local Government Areas.
  3. They requested that newly recruited health workers be promptly assigned to their duty posts to strengthen the primary healthcare system.
  4. They also advocated for establishing a functional, well-structured Local Health Authority to improve healthcare delivery across the state.
  5. They appealed for the prompt promotion and advancement of eligible staff to motivate them and enhance productivity.

The Chairman, Comrade Victor Uyi Omorogbe, assured the Executive Secretary, EDSPHCDA Dr. Coulson Osoikhai Oahimire, of their commitment to supporting his administration and working together to improve healthcare services in Edo State.

In response, the Executive Secretary appreciated their visit and acknowledged their concerns. He assured them that their requests would be reviewed and addressed accordingly. He also reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the Association to ensure quality healthcare for the people of Edo State.
