
The Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA) has commenced the third round of the Big Catch-Up (BCU) vaccination exercise in the 18 LGAs across the state.
The exercise commenced on Thursday, April 10th, 2025, and will run through April 17th, 2025.
During a meeting with EDSPHCDA Program officers and some Supervisors and Monitors of the BCU program held on April 12th, 2025.
Dr. Coulson Oahimire Osoikhia, the Executive Secretary, EDSPHCDA highlighted that the Big Catch-Up initiative aims to close immunization gaps caused by disruptions in healthcare services and explained that the initiative also aims to improve immunization coverage and reduce the incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases across the state.
The Executive Secretary further emphasized that the focus is primarily on children under-five who have missed routine vaccinations and fallen behind on their immunization schedules due to the disruptions.
In his words, “Our vaccinators are actively going door to door, reaching every eligible child aged 0–59 months, mothers can visit any of our primary healthcare centers for their children’s vaccinations.”
He appreciated the Governor for his effort in ensuring Edo children receive the quality healthcare while also appreciating all the technical partners, media, religious groups, community leaders, civil societies etc, for their support towards ensuring the success of the BCU program.
